NWS confirms EF0 tornado touches down in Person Co.

ROXBORO, N.C. -

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has confirmed that a tornado briefly touched down in Person County Tuesday afternoon.

Officials have rated the tornado as an EF0 with maximum wind speeds of 80-86 miles per hours. It touched down about 10 miles northwest of Roxboro just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2.

Officials said the tornado was only on the ground for about two minutes, but during that time there was significant tree and structure damage to several homes.
