Law Enforcement Preparing For July 4th DUI Crackdown

Augusta, GA -

Law enforcement across the country has ramped up patrols for the July 4th holiday this week.

The Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety has partnered with local authorities for the annual 'Zero Tolerance' anti-DUI campaign.

On average, there are 88 alcohol-related crashes in Georgia between July 3rd and 5th...and officials say it's not just on land. Water and land DUI's go hand-in-hand, they say. "If we get a drunk boater off the water, that's a drunk driver who would have been on the road later because they've got to get there one way or another, and we're working with our partners at the Department of Natural Resources in identifying these folks and prosecuting them to the fully extent of the law," says Harris Blackwood, the director of the Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

Patrols on waterways and roads will continue through the weekend in all states. Law enforcement offices remind everyone to stay smart while traveling.
