After months of debate and changes, the Aiken County Board of Education passed the budget for the 2013-2014 school year on Tuesday night.
The budget approval means the operation tax millage will go up by 3.3 mills. It will reduce the debt service millage for new construction and maintenance by 2.5 mills.
An amendment was added to the budget that will give everyone working in the school system an increase in salary. Newest and oldest teachers adminstrative staff, custodians and cooks will get a 1% increase. Teachers with moderate experience, at teaching levels 4 to 21, will see a 2% increase on their paychecks.
The school board did vote against adding $400,000 to the athletic funding.
