DURHAM, N.C. -

Durham police have charged three men in connection with a robbery Monday night at Jared's Jewelers on Fayetteville Road near the Streets at Southpoint mall.

Officers responded to a call of a robbery in progress at the jewelry store. Police say two men armed with guns kidnapped a store employee and forced the employee back to the store around 11 p.m.

Shortly after the suspects fled the scene, officers attempted to stop both cars involved, but both vehicles refused to stop.

One vehicle crashed on Meridian Parkway. The driver of that vehicle, 19-year-old Denzel Timothy Rasheem Shivers of Fuquay-Varina, was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle lead officers on a high speed chase on N.C. Highway 55 and crashed on Kit Creek Road in Cary.

Officers recovered the stolen items, but have not located the two suspects that fled from the second vehicle. Police have identified the two suspects as Vendai Larpist Irick, 22, of Fuquay-Varina and Jerrold Devin Boyd, 20, of Cary.

All three suspects are charged with second-degree kidnapping, two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and three counts of felony conspiracy and felony fleeing to elude arrest.

Irick turned himself in at Durham Police Headquarters Tuesday afternoon. Rodney Byrd has also turned himself in later Tuesday.

Byrd and Irick have been placed in Durham County Jail under $3 million bond.
