DURHAM, N.C. -

Durham police officers are on the scene of a shooting in the 100 block of North Hyde Park Ave.

The call came in around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday. Police say a male died from a gunshot wound and the case is being investigated as a homicide.

Witnesses say they heard five or six shots in rapid succession, and then saw the victim fall to the ground behind a white Honda that was being towed down the street.

Durham police identified the victim as Jermaine Andrea McDonald, 37, of North Hyde Park Ave.

A neighbor said they believe the shooter was in a car that drove up next to the towed vehicle and fired shots at McDonald while inside the white Honda.

McDonald supposedly tried to get out of the Honda and was shot, a neighbor said.

Police said this was not a random crime.
