There was a celebration on Fort Gordon Friday. It's the Army's 238th birthday and WJBF News Channel 6 dropped in on the party.
The cake cutting ceremony was held Friday morning at Freedom Park. Many people were in attendance, including the youngest officer and the youngest soldier at Fort Gordon. They both say being the youngest is an honor.
"That was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I mean, you're not going to be the youngest forever, but uh, that was very cool to go up there and be with the general, the sergeant major and take part in that...tradition-wise, I love all of this...it's a cool event to take part in and I'm so happy and thankful to be here," said Private First Class (PFC) Bryce Sickles, the youngest soldier.
The youngest soldier is 18-years-old and the youngest officer is only 22-years-old.
