RALEIGH, N.C. -

About 75 people went at the North Carolina General Assembly Wednesday afternoon as the NAACP continues to try to put pressure on lawmakers.

Rev. William Barber, president of the North Carolina NAACP, is calling the day "Witness Wednesday," and it comes two days after the Moral Monday protests.

Eight people were arrested around 1 p.m. Wednesday, including Durham City Council member Steve Schewel.

Two members of the NC NACCP were also arrested. Andre Knight, a member of the Rocky Mount city council and Carolyn Coleman, County Commissioner of Guilford County.

The Moral Monday protests have continued to gather steam, with hundreds of people coming, and arrests climbing. The protests have targeted Republican-led legislation.

Protesters said they were arrested as a symbol to all who died in the civil rights struggles of the 1960s.
