Cot Campbell back in Aiken after Belmont Stakes win

Posted: Updated:

AIKEN, SC - Ask anybody in the horse racing community, and you will hear nothing but good things about Dogwood Stables and it's legendary president Cot Campbell. So when Palace Malice torched the field at the 2013 Belmont Stakes - the win resonated with friends, family and fans around the CSRA.

After celebrating Saturday in New York, Campbell and his wife Ann returned to Aiken Sunday morning to fanfare around the community.

Over the years,  the 85-year old Campbell has transitioned into semi-retirement - but this grin ranks up there with the many big wins by Dogwood's horses over the years.

"I would have to say this is one of the happiest, most exciting, exhilarating chapters in what has been a long career," Campbell said. "We won the Preakness in 1990, and we won some other great races but this one was terrific because it comes in the twilight of my career. I'd have to give it very high marks."

And Palace Malice is not done earning Campbell money. The three year old colt has it's (blinkerless) sights set on Saratoga Springs and the Travers stakes.
