Channel 6 Story Brings City Leaders To Riverwalk

Posted: Updated:

Augusta city leaders will take a look at what's wrong with Riverwalk following several violent acts last month.

Three weeks ago we showed you the condition of the popular park.

Weeds are taking over and there are concerns with the brick and concrete work and other maintenance issues.

On Monday, commissioners, the mayor and other city officials are planning to tour Riverwalk to see the problems first-hand.

Mayor Pro-Tem Corey Johnson organized the visit.

"Take a look at some of the things the preventative maintenance we can do things that we deem to be a hazard or a threat things that make the patrons feel uncomfortable so hopefully with this we can get a concept and get some things documented I call it low handing fruit that we can address and get it taken care of," says Johnson.

While on the tour, Johnson says city leaders will consider long range plans for the Riverwalk that could be paid for from future sales tax funds.
