A man wanted in connection to an early Thursday morning murder on Milledgeville Road, in Augusta, is now in custody.

Darrian Antwonn Williams, 24, turned himself in to Richmond County Sheriff's Office investigators Friday afternoon at 3:10 p.m. at the Augusta-Richmond County Law Enforcement Center, on Walton Way.

Williams will be booked into the jail on the below charges concerning the murder:

  • 1 count of Murder
  • 1 count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime
  • 1 count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • 2 counts of Cruelty to Children in the 3rd Degree

We are learning more information on an early morning murder in Richmond County.

Richmond County Sheriff's Office investigators tell WJBF News Channel 6, at approximately 12:28 a.m. Thursday morning, deputies responded to 2526 Milledgeville Road lot # E-12 after receiving a call to a person shot. Officer's located the victim, 31-year-old Larry Bernard Elam, Jr. inside the residence with at least one gunshot wound to the neck area.

Elam was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses report that Elam and the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Darrian Antwonn Williams, had a verbal dispute and during this incident, Williams produced a firearm and shot Elam. Williams reportedly fled the scene and is currently wanted for murder. He is described as being 5'11" tall, and wieghing 170 pounds. His last known address is 1678 McCauley Street, in Augusta.

Investigators say Williams is a known gang member and is usually seen dressed in red from head to toe. Williams is known to carry a firearm and believed to be armed and dangerous.

One man is dead following a late night shooting in Augusta.

The shooting happened around 12: 30 a.m. inside a home at Augusta Estates Mobile Homes.  

That's located on the 2500 Block of Milledgeville Road.

Authorities say 31-year-old Larry Elam, Jr. was shot in the neck and he died from his injuries.

Also at the residence, a 5-year old was hit by broken glass, then taken and treated at Georgia Regents University Medical Center.

At this time no one has been arrested in connection to this crime.
