Dr. Campbell's top foods to avoid for better health

Posted: Updated:

Dr. Kevin Campbell appears every Wednesday morning on WNCN Today. He will also provide a special one-minute guide to healthy living each week for WNCN.com.

Here, Dr. Campbell gives you five foods to avoid for better health:

  1. Soda:  Sodas are loaded with calories and have almost no nutritional value. Sodas are directly related to obesity.
  2. Fried foods:  Fried foods contain a large amount of saturated fats. Consuming a large mount of fried foods can lead to obesity, heart disease and hypertension.
  3. Fast food:  Although convenient and inexpensive, fast food is calorie dense and poor in nutritional value. The average fast food meal in the U.S. contains approximately 850 calories.
  4. White flour:  White flour products are highly processed. The ingestion of these products results in the body releasing a large amount of insulin quickly. The release of insulin promotes the storage of fat in fat tissue.
  5. Baked goods:  Baked goods are loaded with sugars and highly processed ingredients. Much like fast and fried foods, baked good are loaded with calories and lack sufficient nutritional value.
