Heery Defends Commissioner Tickets

Posted: Updated:

Augusta commissioners send a proposal to extend the contract with its sales tax project manager back to committee.

Heery International is proposing a two year extension   to allow the company finish up ongoing projects like the Municipal building renovations.

The cost would be an additional one point six million dollars.

The contract is not the only item being questioned Heery has also been providing tickets to commissioners to attend Atlanta Braves and Falcon games.

We asked Heery's Community Liaison if that seems like an ethics violation.

"No it's not that's a courtesy okay, and a lot of organizations do courtesy Augusta National gives courtesy tickets so does Heery International and other organizations nothing is illegal about that," says Butch Gallop.

The city ordinance says commissioners can accept tickets or free admission to events as a courtesy

However the ordinance also says elected officials are prohibited from accepting gifts from vendors.

Heery's contract is up the end of July.
