Greensboro, Georgia -

Several residents were being evacuated from their homes after multiple explosions involving a gas line in the northeast Georgia town of Greensboro.

Authorities say the explosions happened shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday in the town about an hour east of Atlanta. There were no reports of any injuries.

CBS Atlanta reports that about a dozen homes and businesses were evacuated. WAGA-TV reports that authorities were going door-to-door to evacuate homes in the East Broad Street area.

WSB-TV reports that about 840 customers were without gas service as a result of the explosions.

Greensboro City Manager Larry Postell said crews were working on the main valve from a high-pressure line that feeds the city. Authorities say a fire started, sending flames about 50 feet high.

Postell said gas should be restored by Wednesday.
