Augusta Officials Looking At Downtown Parking Plan

Posted: Updated:
Augusta, GA -

City leaders are looking at a plan for downtown parking.

Officials are trying to figure out what to do about the two hour limit in the Broad Street area.

Many merchants in the 1200 block of Broad Street are requesting the city not enforce the limit in the upper section of the street. One suggestion is only enforce the two hour limit between 5th Street and 11th Street, but some Augusta Commissioners say that's not the right approach.

"People get confused, then you have to have a hearing to unconfuse people. Broad Street either needs to be enforced or not chalk the tires or not ticket or fine whatever. Don't pick and choose," says Commissioner Joe Jackson.

City leaders are also recommending not to enforce the 2 hour limit on the side streets or on Greene Street downtown, south of Ellis Street.
