LITTLE RIVER, SC (WBTW) - A Little River man was arrested Sunday night after police said he brought a rifle, ammunition, and a can of gasoline to a church and made threats.
According to an Horry County police report, Paul Milton Gabriel, 59, was asked to leave the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Little River during evening services.
Witnesses told police Gabriel left and said "wait until I get back."
They told police Gabriel returned with a gas can in the back of his truck and they believed he was going to set the church on fire, the report said.
Police arrived just before midnight and found Gabriel near a wooded area at the church with a 30/30 rifle on the front seat of his truck, ammo and a gas can in the back, the report said.
Police asked Gabriel why he was there and he said he had a problem with one of the men in the church and was going to "get him no matter what," the report said.
Gabriel said he was going to "burn (the victim) because he wasn't happy with the way he was sleeping with the women of the parish," the report said.
Gabriel was arrested and later charged with stalking and entering premises after being warned.
He is currently being held at the J Reuben Long Detention Center under a $5,475 bond.
