Tampa Bay elementary school celebrates peace

TEMPLE TERRACE, FL (WFLA) -

Students at Temple Terrace Elementary School have spent the entire year putting peace into words.

"Peace is when you're in your happy place and you feel calm," William Johnson said.

Johnson says a big part of peace is passing it on to someone you love. Johnson and the rest of the second graders passed on peace to local veterans throughout the year. The class sent cards to local vets for every holiday, even Valentine's Day. They made shirts and a peace quilt.

"They fought for us to have freedom," second-grade student Emily Alfaro said.  "I feel like they should have something in return."

Helping Veterans was part of a peace project, their teacher, Lynn Smalley, has been doing for 10 years. This year, her class won the Radiant Peace Foundation's Annual Education Contest.

On Memorial Day, Smalley's students say they'll be thinking of veterans on their day off school.

"Some people might die some people might live so it's important to let them know that we care," Alfaro said.

Alfaro says when she started the class project at the beginning of the year, she never imagined how thankful the veterans would be.

"Little kids can make a difference to other people in the world."

Personal wipes, baby wipes, face wipes, flushable wipes. They are all designed to help us deal with delicate issues. But the wipes themselves are actually pretty sturdy and increasingly local water systems are finding they are creating costly problems.
