CSRA Unemployment Rate Declines To 8.6 Percent In April

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the unemployment rate in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) region declined to 8.6 percent in April, down one-tenth of a percentage point from 8.7 percent in March. The rate was 8.9 percent in April a year ago.

The rate declined because the number of employed people increased by 1,848 to 190,745, up from 188,897 in March. The number of employed people was up by 1,272 from 189,473 in April 2012.

Metro Athens had the lowest area jobless rate at 5.6 percent, while the Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest at 10.3 percent.

Meanwhile, Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April was 8.2 percent, down from 8.4 percent in March. The rate was 9.1 percent in April a year ago.
