Dozens of animals found in Pasco home

Posted: Updated:
HOLIDAY, FL (WFLA) -

Approximately 40 animals were found in what appeared to be an abandoned home on Hiawatha Place in Holiday on Wednesday night according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. Pasco County Animal Services took them in.

Deputies responded after a neighbor called the sheriff's office at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday complaining of a strong smell and numerous flies coming from the home.

A deputy entered the home to check on the resident and instead found numerous animals left alone for probably a week. Officials say the animals were emaciated and animal feces were scattered throughout the house.

Animals reported to be in the house include dogs, cats, rabbits, a snake and a lizard. The animals were being removed by Pasco Animal Control on Wednesday evening.

Deputies say the renter of the house is Alicia Nelson and charges of Animal Neglect and Cruelty to Animals are pending.
