New Ellenton Woman Speaks Out After Her Dogs Were Shot

Posted: Updated:
New Ellenton, SC -

Five year old Bucky is typically an active dog who spends a lot of time outside. But that changed on Saturday. A bullet pierced his body and punctured his spirits.  His owner, Beverly Johnson, says, "now he won't go out. He'll go out just long enough to do his business. Then he's right back in the door."

Johnson says all of her dogs were in the yard on Saturday when two men were walking on a street across from their house. According to a witness, one of the men pulled out a handgun and shot a dog across the street. The men reportedly came near Johnson's chain link fence and caught everyone off guard, especially Bucky.  "They were walking along back there at the fence and the others were right back here in the middle of the yard and I guess they ran when they heard the gun shot. Then he got shot," explains Johnson.

The accused shooter ran away but left behind a lot of hurt feelings and a wounded dog. "Not an innocent dog that has no voice, no nothing. It just sickens me," Johnson says.

While the gunshot injured an innocent dog this shooting also left a family paralyzed by fear that something else could happen to their beloved dogs.  "Now I'm scared to let them out in the backyard at all."

The other dog was shot near its leg.

New Ellenton police have arrested one person. He is a juvenile so they are not releasing information about him.  Call police if you have any information on where to find them the other suspect.
