Two suspects in a deadly barber shop shooting in Beech Island, South Carolina are behind bars.

Aiken County investigators say Demarcus Booker and Raphael Wooden went into the Island Cuts Barber Shop on Sandbar Ferry Road around 3 p.m. on Saturday demanding money. They say the business owner, Zann Worrel, fought with the suspects and was shot several times.

Authorities say the suspects fled the scene. They say a witness followed the car into Richmond County GA, where the witness was able to relay the vehicle location and license plate number to the Sheriff's Office via cell phone. Richmond County deputies located the car and arrested the suspects.

Worrel was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Booker and Wooden are being held at the Richmond County Jail pending extradition to South Carolina.


Aiken County investigators looking for at least one suspect who they say shot a barber shop owner in an attempted robbery.

It happened around 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Island Cut Barber Shop on Sand Bar Ferry Road in Beech Island.

Investigators say the owner was shot after he tried to fight back and was taken to the hospital. There is no word on his condition. 

Investigators say they believe the suspect drove off in a white Honda, but no other description has been released.
