Lawn mower victim to meet Winter the dolphin

CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) -

The girl who lost her feet in a mower accident will meet the dolphin that lost her tail and inspired a movie.

Ireland Nugent and her family will be at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium on Saturday to meet Winter the dolphin.

According to the Ireland Nugent Support Facebook page, the Aquarium is having a "Day of Support" for Ireland.  CMW will donate $2 from every ticket, plus any money placed in donation boxes, to help pay for Ireland's recovery.

Ireland, who's two years old, lost her feet and hurt one of her arms when her father accidentally ran over her with a riding mower.  Winter the dolphin had to have her tail amputated after she was found caught in a crab trap.  The dolphin was fitted with a prosthetic tail so she could swim more easily.  Winter's story inspired the film "Dolphin Tale". 

Earlier this month, Ireland's father Jerry said he used Winter to help explain to his daughter what happened to her:  "When she asks about her limbs, we just say you're going to have new feet, just like Winter the dolphin," said Nugent.

Ireland's mother Nicole says the girl is expected to be fitted with prosthetic feet in about a month.
