Jaguars Tee Off Thursday

Posted: Updated:

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State's Alex Wennstam and Maverick Antcliff open postseason play Thursday morning when the Jaguar duo tees off in the opening round of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional at Golden Eagle Golf & Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla.

Antcliff and Wennstam earned at-large individual bids from the NCAA on Monday, May 6 when the field of 81 teams and 45 individuals were selected for the six regional sites. Tee times are expected to be released later in the day by the NCAA and Golfstat. Live scoring of the Tallahassee Regional will be available at www.golfstat.com as well as www.jaguarsroar.com.

A junior from Gothenburg, Sweden, Wennstam played in 11 events for the Jaguars during the regular season. He ranked second on the squad in stroke average (74.03) to Antcliff and led the team in rounds of par or better (13). He enjoyed a strong spring campaign, improving to a 72.79 scoring average in six spring events.

Antcliff, a freshman from Beaudesert, Australia, made a big splash in his first season as an active member of the program. In six events during the spring, Antcliff posted a team-low 73.0 stroke average and squad-best four top-20 finishes. He tied for 16th in his collegiate debut at the Puerto Rico Classic and shot a 3-under 69 in his first round as a Jaguar. In the final round of the Cleveland Golf/Palmetto Intercollegiate, he fired a 4-under 66 to spark the Jags to the team title.

The six regionals are three-day, 54-hole events slated for Thursday-Saturday, May 16-18. The top five teams and top individual not on an advancing team from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, which are slated for May 28-June 2 at the Capital City Club's Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga.
