Downtown Augusta Two-Hour Parking Limit Will Not Be Enforced

Posted: Updated:

If you park too long in downtown Augusta, don't worry about getting a least for now.

Some downtown businesses raised concerns with Augusta Commissioners after new two-hour limit signs went up last week.

Richmond County Sheriff's Office representatives met with Deputy City Administrator Bill Shanahan and Traffic Engineer Steve Cassell and said they will not enforce the limit until they get direction from the Commission.

That's not sitting well with some business owners who say those working downtown will park their cars in the morning and not move it all day

"We need the two hour parking it allows our customers to be able to park they move along and another one comes in if not you're going to have someone sit there all day" says Broad Street business owner Robin Schweitzer.

The parking group will recommend Commissioners is to form a parking committee with downtown business owners, merchants, and other interested parties to come up with a new parking ordinance.
