Richmond County Sheriff's Office deputies made an arrest Wednesday night in connection to a deadly Wednesday morning hit-and-run.

Deputies made contact with Christopher Provost in the 1500 block of Citation Road, in Hephzibah. Provost was placed into custody and transported to the Richmond County Jail.

Provost is currently facing felony charges including Hit and Run, and Vehicular Homicide 1st Degree.

This case will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office with additional charges pending.

Richmond County Sheriff's Office investigators have identified a man wanted for questioning regarding a deadly Wednesday morning hit-and-run on Mike Padgett Highway.

The man is identified as 35-year-old Christopher Provost, whose address is listed on the 1500 block of Citation Road, in Hephzibah.

Anyone with information on Provost's whereabouts is asked to contact the Richmond County Sheriff's Office at 706-821-1080.

Richmond County Sheriff's Office investigators and deputies are on the hunt for the driver involved in a deadly Wednesday morning hit-and-run.

Dennis John Skillman, 42, died after a pickup truck hit him as he was riding his bicycle to work, according to investigators. The incident happened on Mike Padgett Highway, just north of Tobacco Road.

The pickup truck involved is described as a white over red Dodge Ram pickup truck, possible a 2003-2005 model. Investigators say the vehicle should have front passenger side damage and passenger side mirror should be missing. The vehicle was last seen traveling north on Mike Padgett Highway.

Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen has now identified the victim of a Wednesday morning hit-and-run.

Bowen identifies the victim as 42-year-old Dennis John Skillman, of the 5000 block of Old Waynesboro Road. He was pronounced dead at 7:38 a.m.

Skillman was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Mike Padgett Highway, just north of Tobacco Road. Skillman was riding his bicycle to work. He was wearing a reflective vest at the time of the incident.

Skillman died from the injuries that he received during the incident.

Skillman was transported to the GBI Augusta Lab for an autopsy since charges are pending in this case. The case is still under investigation.

One person is dead following a hit and run accident in South Augusta.

It happened around 6:30 Wednesday morning on the Mike Padgett Highway, not far from Tobacco Road.  According to Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen, the accident victim is deceased.  The name of the victim has not been released. 

According to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, the victim was riding his bicycle northbound off the roadway when a vehicle, traveling in the same direction, veered off the roadway and struck the bicycle, killing the rider.

Deputies say the vehicle then left the scene of the accident, continuing north on Mike Padgett Highway. The vehicle is described by witnesses as being a red and white pick-up truck with front right-side damage.
