RALEIGH, N.C. -

The City of Raleigh bought the home Nettie Grove rents, and now serves as the 83-year-old woman's landlord. But the city wants to redevelop the neighborhood where Grove lives, which means she'll have to move out.

Grove has been renting the Carver Street home for several years, and although she says she follows all of the rules, the city has given her a 90-day notice to move out of the home.

"I did not drink, dope, no hanky panky," she joked. But on a serious note, Grove explained, "My doctor says if I have to move, I will have another stroke and die."

"This is my home," Grove said. "I have no place else to go. My family is all dead and gone. Where am I going to go?"

The city plans to redevelop the neighborhood where Grove lives and build new houses there. City planners say they are working with Grove to help her find new, affordable housing.

"There's a lot more to the story, we actually are sitting down with her to see what we can do to help her," said Mitchell Silver, with the Department of City Planning.

Silver said the city is working with the housing authority to find her a new Section 8 home, and the city may offer Grove an extension if a home isn't found in the next 90 days.

"We can go beyond the 90 days," Silver said.

Because the home is now owned by the city, Silver explained that Grove's home must also meet city standards.

"We care very much [about Grove]," Silver said.
