Raleigh police make arrest in S. State St. shooting

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting on S. State Street early Monday morning.

According to officials, police responded to a call of multiple shots fired at 700 S. State St. just after 2 a.m. Monday. The shooting occurred just a few blocks from Ligon Middle School.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to WakeMed. The victim has been identified as Christopher Pullen.

Police arrested James Elvin Alston Monday, May 13 and charged him with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Alston was previously arrested and charged in connection with a Nov. 15, 2009 robbery. He was sentenced to 15 to 18 months in jail and 18 months of supervised probation.
