CARY, N.C. -

A Cary woman was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the strangulation death of her husband late Wednesday night.

According to the Cary police, Dottie Delaney Amtey, 61, strangled and killed her husband, Sharad Amtey, 77.

In a 911 call released Thursday afternoon, the caller tells the 911 operator that, " There's been a murder...says that she just choked her husband to death."

Police responded to a call from within the home located at 101 Carbon Hill Court just after 11 p.m. Wednesday when Dottie Amtey reported that her husband was non-responsive. He was taken to Rex Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to the caller, "He was very, very sick and old and she says that she just killed him."

Amtey is currently being held in the Wake County Detention Center in Raleigh. She faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty, if convicted.

Homicides in Cary are rare and the last occurred on July 11, 2011, when Bernard Carree, 61, of Cary, shot and killed his stepson, Kamali Shamal Moore, 35, of Raleigh.
