Pacers Golf in 3rd after Day 2 of NCAA Regional

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The nationally third-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken men's golf team is in eighth place after the first two rounds of action at the 2013 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional at the par-72, 6,928-yard El Campeon golf course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club.

 

Through two rounds of play, USC Aiken currently owns a score of 598 (295-303).

 

JP Solis (Morelia, Mexico/Lico Morelia) led the Pacers in the second round on Tuesday. Solis posted three birdies en route to a 2-under 70. Solis has a two-round score of 142 (72-70). The two-round score of 142 has him in sole possession of third.

 

USC Aiken's Matt Atkins (Owensboro, Ky./Henderson State) carded an 82 to finish the second day of the regional with a total of 152 (70-82).

 

Mark Dickson (Edinburgh, Scotland/Firrhill) closed out his second round with a 77. He now owns a two-round total of 153 (76-77).

 

USC Aiken's Hayden Letien (Sumter, S.C./Sumter HS) owns a two-round score of 157 (77-80), while Taylor Welborn (LaGrange, Ga./Darton) also owns a two-round score of 157 (81-76).

 

Current national No. 1 Nova Southeastern is in first after the first two rounds of action at 571 (287-284). National No. 2 Barry is in second at 580 (284-296).

 

Nova Southeastern's Ricardo Celia (69-72) and Ben Taylor (70-71) are tied for the individual lead through two rounds at 141.

 

USC Aiken is vying to make its 17th appearance in the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship in the South/Southeast regional.

 

The top seven teams and top two student-athletes not with a team after stroke play in the 2013 NCAA South/Southeast Regional will advance to the finals May 20-24 at the par-71, 7,061-yard East Course at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.

 

The third and final round is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The first Pacer is scheduled to tee off sometime after 12 p.m. on Tuesday.
