A Columbia County woman is behind bars, charged with concealing the death of her mother, 74-year-old Catherine Simmons.
Denise Marie Chinnery, 45, is also charged with cruelty to a person 65 years or older.
According to the Captain Steve Morris, with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Chinnery's sister called the Sheriff's Office and reported a strong smell coming from inside her mother's home, located at 6060 Mahala Lane, in Harlem.
According to the Sheriff's Office report, when investigators arrived at Chinnery's mother's house, Chinnery was blocking the door and would not let anyone into the home. Once the door was forced open, Simmons was found seated in a chair in the living room.
At last check, Chinnery was in the Columbia County Detention Center and her bond was set at $15,000.
