WJBF's Kim Scott Takes A Spin In A Monster Truck

Augusta, GA -

Monster truck show's are big, rowdy, and full of action.

So, before the action gets started at the James Brown Arena this weekend, I wanted to find out about the trucks.

Derrick Anson has been driving his monster truck for nearly 25 years. It is a childhood dream come true.

"At 18-years-old, I was blessed and able to drive somebody's truck. After that, I had the feeling that one day I'd have my own," Anson says.

And now, he does. He actually owns a few monster trucks. The engine on one he brought to Augusta is 1,425 horsepower.

"It's 500 cubic inches, it's a tall deck...Chevrolet deck block design, but it's all aftermarket," Anson says.

The driver seat in this truck puts you 10 feet off the ground. The tires are 66 inches tall and 43 inches wide.

"Is it hard to learn how to drive?" I asked Anson. "No, just get in it, shut your eyes, and push it to the floor," Anson says.

Since it sounded so easy, I wanted to get behind the wheel.

Alright folks, I'm gonna take this big truck for a spin...alright, here we go...it's all in a day's work...

The Monster truck show is happening at the James Brown Arena Friday night and Saturday. You can get inside the pit at 6:00...the show starts at 7:30.
