UPDATED ON 6: Tremors Continue Near Lincoln County

Another earthquake struck about 12:44 a.m. Saturday morning.

This tremor was centered about 6 miles east-southeast of Lincolnton and registered 2.3 on the Richter Scale, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

This is the latest in a series of tremors to strike ther area in the last month, and the second in the last two days. Friday morning's quake registered 2.8 on the Richter Scale.

Some people reported an aftershock about 5 minutes after the initial tremor Saturday morning.

Another earthquake hit Lincoln County very early Friday morning.

The United States Geological Survey confirms the quake struck at 1:13 a.m. and registered 2.8 on the Richter Scale. The epicenter was about  three miles northwest of Double Branches or about 10 miles southeast of Lincolnton. The earthquake had many residents scared.

"There were no immediate reports of any damage or injuries and this is the latest in a series of earthquakes to hit the area...On April 7th, a 2.5 magnitude tremor was recorded followed by two aftershocks," says Lincoln County Sheriff Bruce Beggs.

Although Georgia quakes are rare, historical records show that shakes as strong as 4 point zero have been felt.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirms an earthquake struck near Lincolnton, Georgia at 1:13 a.m., registering 2.8 on the Richter Scale.

The epicenter was located about two and a half miles northwest of Double Branches or about 10 miles east southeast of Lincolnton.

An aftershock measuring magnitude 2.1 was confirmed by the USGS. That shook the ground at about 1:27 a.m.

This is the latest in a series of earthquakes to hit the area. On April 7th, a 2.5 magnitude tremor was recorded followed by two aftershocks registering 1.9 and 2.2.
