A woman reportedly stabbed by the best man in her wedding has died as a result of her injuries, the woman's family said early Wednesday morning.

Jamie Hahn, 29, and her husband Nation Hahn, 27, were attacked in their home on Tealwood Place Monday evening. Both were transported to WakeMed, where Nation Hahn was treated and released, and Jamie Hahn clung to her life until Wednesday morning.

"Jaime lost her struggle to live this morning," the family said in statement released at 1:50 a.m. "We lost a beautiful and loving wife, daughter and friend. We all lost a pure and brave spirit."

In a heart-wrenching tweet Wednesday, Nation Hahn wrote, "I have no idea what I am going to do without @jamiehahn. She was my center, my rock and my soulmate."

He later wrote that a service would be held at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh on Saturday at 11 a.m.

A letter from Pullen Memorial Baptist Church said a visitation has been scheduled for Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Finlator Hall.

According to the 911 calls, a caller said "somebody stabbed her and she's bleeding so badly." The called said Jamie Hahn was talking and awake, saying, "I love you."

The caller also said they had towels on her stomach and her feet up, but the caller later said she was fading. The caller identified 31-year-old Jonathan Broyhill as the suspect.

Police intend to charge Broyhill with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He will be charged and processed at the Wake County Jail when he is released from WakeMed. Broyhill is being treated for self-inflicted injuries.

A wedding announcement in a South Carolina newspaper listed Broyhill as the best man at the couple's wedding in April 2009. Jamie Hahn was from Orangeburg, S.C., and Nation Hahn and Broyhill grew up together in Lenoir, N.C.

A statement from the victims' families said Jamie "dedicated her life and her work to the ideal that we were put on this earth to care for those who need an extra measure of care. She believed in justice, opportunity and fairness for all."

"She had a gift for bringing us together -- black and white, young and old, gay and straight. She challenged us to work together for a better world," her family.

The Hahns are considered up-and-comers in the Democratic Party. Along with Broyhill, all three are democratic political strategists, and Jamie Hahn was a prominent fundraiser for the state party.

Some of the groups Nation Hahn worked with include the Coalition to Protect All N.C. Families, a campaign opposed to the state constitutional amendment that limits marriage to a union between a man and a woman. He has also worked with the N.C. Sierra Club, the United Football League and former U.S. Sen. John Edwards' presidential campaign.

Jamie Hahn founded Blue Sky Strategies, a fundraising firm that focuses on politics and nonprofits. She also worked on campaigns for several politicians, including Edwards, former U.S. Rep. Brad Miller and former U.S. Senate candidate Ken Lewis.

State Democratic Chairman Randolph Voller says he has worked closely with the Hahns and says the attack is devastating.

"She has worked with a number of democrats through her firm -- fundraising. She truly believed in the democratic values," Voller said. "Her husband has also been working for years putting out the message."

Broyhill was identified as a strategist for Jamie Hahn's firm when he made a campaign contribution to Walter Dalton's gubernatorial bid last September, according to campaign finance records posted on the State Board of Elections web site.

Voller, however, says he was not familiar with Broyhill or his work with Jamie and her firm.

Note: A previous version of this story said Nation Hahn and Broyhill both attended UNC. Broyhill did not attend UNC.
