The Aiken County Sheriff's Office released a statement Thursday afternoon concerning the investigation into a suspicious vehicle at an Aiken hotel that was reported Thursday morning. Click to read that statement.

Read the statement below:

Today, April 18, 2013 at 8:22 AM the Aiken County Sheriff's Office was contacted in reference to a suspicious gold colored Ford Expedition parked on the property of the Country Inn and Suites, 3200 block of Whiskey Rd, Aiken SC. Deputies arrived on scene and observed two gas cans and an oxygen tank under the vehicle. A perimeter was established around the vehicle and several agencies were contacted to help with the investigation. The perimeter was approximately one mile. Whiskey Road was closed from Citadel Road to Talatha Church Road. The purpose of the road closure was primarily to provide room for all emergency equipment and personnel. Guests of the hotel were moved to an area deemed safe inside the building by State Law Enforcement Division's Bomb Squad.

Through the investigation SLED's Bomb Squad determined that there was no threat from the vehicle and deemed the area safe. Investigators made contact with the owner of the vehicle who is an out of town construction worker. The reason for leaving the canisters with the truck was because the work site he was currently at would not allow those items there.

Agencies who assisted with the investigation are Aiken Department of Public Safety, State Law Enforcement Division, South Carolina Highway Patrol, South Carolina Transport Police, Aiken County Haz Mat, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
