Junior Golfers Will Get A Chance To Play At Augusta National Golf Club

Augusta, GA -

While professional golfers are driving, chipping and putting at Augusta National Golf Club... junior golfers across the country are dreaming about doing the same. Monday, the Golf Club announced a nationwide competition that will take place there the Sunday before Masters 2014.

There's a first time for everything and for 12 year old Preston Pelham, spending a day at Augusta National Golf Club is a first he'll never forget.

"Very cool. Looks a lot nicer than the country club back home," says Preston.

Steve Pelham, Preston's father, has been to The Masters 8 times now... but he wanted to share the experience with his family.

"It's always a fascinating experience. Every time I step on to the grass it's sort of like I have reached home," says Steve.

As the Pelham family walked around the course, Steve had one hole in particular that he wanted his son Preston to see.

"The 18th hole is monstrous," says Preston.

"You know what I really like? Is coming up 18. You never can appreciate it until you're here watching it and seeing it first hand," says Steve.

It's the shot that many professional golfer dream about. But come this time next year, a group of boys and girls ages 7-15 will have an opportunity to sink a putt on the 18th green.

Announced on Monday, the Drive, Chip, and Putt Championship will have local and regional qualifiers conducted across the country. It's a competition that Steve will definitely be signing his son up for.

"For Preston to be able to have that chance and to be able to qualify, it would be awesome for us to be to sit in the gallery and watch my son putt on 18. We would love it. We would totally support it," says Steve.

"I'll probably sign up. I'm not sure if I'll make it here, but I'll try," says Preston.

Preston has been golfing for four years... but even if all the practice got him to the championship next year... he doesn't know what would happen

"That would be pretty cool but I'm sure I would be nervous as heck," says Preston.
