Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch has released her first TV campaign ad since GOP voters settled on Mark Sanford as her Republican opponent in the special election in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District.
Colbert Busch describes how she raised kids as a single mom and promises to be an independent congresswoman and not follow any party line. She also says the deficit is killing the nation's ability to create jobs.
Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer calls the ad ironic because Colbert Busch favored the federal stimulus, which he says raised the deficit.
Sanford's campaign says he has accepted four invitations for debates, including one next week sponsored by AARP.
Other debates are being organized by Patch and the South Carolina Radio Network, a local Rotary Club and CNN.
