Unofficial Start to Masters Week

Posted: Updated:

Augusta, GA (WJBF) -- Masters Week doesn't officially begin until Monday when the patrons are allowed on the course for the first time, and it's the first full day of practice rounds. But many of the world's top golfers and many former champions were out at Augusta National on Sunday, the first day the media is allowed on the grounds.

New world's #1 golfer Tiger Woods was getting work in on Sunday. He's trying to capture his first green jacket since 2005.

Also spotted on the range Sunday were Augusta native and 1987 Masters champion Larry Mize, Graeme McDowell, Brandt Snedeker, Tom Watson, and 14-year-old Tianlang Guan among many others. Guan is the youngest Masters participant ever, and he says he feels ready for the challenge. He has already gotten in a number of practice rounds with some Masters veterans including Phil Mickelson and Luke Donald.

Speaking of Mickelson, he played a practice round with former secretary of state Condoleeza Rice on Sunday. Rice is of course one of the first two female members of Augusta National. According to Mickelson, she sunk a 40-foot putt on 18.

Starting Monday night all the way through championship Sunday, be sure to tune into WJBF at 11:10 for the Masters Report, a daily recap of all the happenings at the Masters.
