Augustans Celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus

Augusta, GA -

It's the holiest day of the year for Christians. There's no better way to start it off than a sunrise service, next to the Savannah River. WJBF News Channel 6's Courtney Elledge has the story.

Christians in Augusta gathered at 7 a.m.  At the Jessye Norman Amphitheater to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Augusta resident, Julian Green says, "It's the most holy day of the year, even more than Christmas because this day is when Jesus rose from the grave and showed us that there is a future, and we have hope for everlasting life."

Downtown Cooperative Church Ministries' main point in Sunday's sermon is that Easter is not just a holiday to eat candy, or hunt eggs…the root of the holiday has a greater meaning.

"We have been restored back to God's favor, and that's what the true meaning of Easter is for a Christian."

With God‘s creations surrounding the Augusta River Walk, it was a morning where people came to celebrate life, and Give thanks to a creator.

Timothy Allen says, "Today means that Jesus has risen, he has died on the cross for our sins, and he lives always in our hearts and in our souls."

The sunrise message was to understand you can rise up from your troubles and put your worries aside just as Jesus did back then.
