She may be cute, but 6-yearold Brenna Cooper is a stone cold, cup stacking superstar. Last week, she was crowned U.S. National Champion in her age division, but it wasn't easy. "I won all first places," she said.
You might say, for Brenna, cup stacking is a family affair. The Cooper kids, from North Augusta, South Carolina are like the Mannings -- Archie, Peyton, and Eli -- of cup stacking.
Older brother Jackson was last year's National Champion in his age group, and her brother Peyton also became a U.S. Champion last week in Baltimore, in the 8-year-old age group. Now, Peyton is setting his sights on outstacking his older brother.
"I kind of want to beat him by a second, but I probably will not be the same speed as him," says Payton. Jackson says he's helped his brother and sister get better at cup stacking, to become National Champions, but like any great, he hasn't revealed all his secrets.
"As they get older and they learn how to do, like, certain stuff, and they adapt to things more quickly, I will share those with them," Jackson says.
So, like an old gunfighter or pool shark, Jackson maybe taught his brother and sister everything they know about cup stacking, just not everything he knows. "Yep," says Jackson.
They're National Champions, and Brenna and Peyton are on the U.S. National Team, going to the World Championships next week in Florida.
When it comes to this sport, the Cooper kids are thoroughbreds. "One of the judges at the competition had asked me...I was standing close by. I've seen them all come through, 'do you just breed champions?' I thought that was kind of funny," said Mary Beth Cooper, their mom, who said she had never heard of the sport until the kids picked it up at school.
But, cup stacking champions are made not born, but they're just kids. How hard can it be?
"You can't beat me," growled the newly-crowned 6-year-old Girls Champion.
It seems I'm a lot better at emptying a cup than stacking one, but I'm not alone when it comes to getting beat in a cup stacking competition. It's tough to keep up with these Cooper kids.
