UPDATED ON 6: Victim In Fatal Aiken Fire Identified

The victim in the early morning fire in Aiken has now been identified by the Aiken County Coroner's Office.

The victim is identified as 71-year-old Thomas Jerome Butler.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton tells WJBF News Channel 6, Butler was a resident of the house at 466 Columbia Avenue in Aiken. He had been living there for approximately two weeks.

One person is dead after a late night fire in Aiken.

It happened around midnight on the 400 block of Columbia Avenue. The name of the victim has not been released. Upon arrival units reported fire coming from the roof of the residence. During fireground operations a victim was located inside of the residence deceased.

Victim information will be released by The Aiken County Coroners Office. ADPS has contacted South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire.
