Giving Your Best: Nancy Dawkins

Think of someone you know who goes out of their way to do for others.

They may visit shut-ins, collect donations, even give money.

We met a woman in Lincolnton, Georgia who does all this and then some, by giving her time to others.

"Whatever your passion is, you can let somebody know that God has not forgotten them."

Nancy Dawkins can only be called a reluctant award winner.

"I feel very guilty because I only do what the Lord gives me the strength and ideas to do and I could not do it without lots and lots of volunteers."

She founded Montabella Missions to help people who are struggling.

"The Lord just called me to serve him, and he promised if I would serve him he would provide for me... and so I sold my business and started doing Montabella Missions."

It's named for her two daughters.

"Montana's adopted from Russia and we adopted Isabella through our church. I know they are a gift from God and I just want to give back. I don't like to see anybody in need and there's always something you can do, and if you don't have money you can give your time."

Laura Epps nominated Nancy for the Giving Your Best award.

"I think she knows what her purpose is in life, she went after it full force and made it her life ambition to help others and she's great at it."

Laura's son is a quadreplegic. She knows firsthand how caring Nancy is.

"She's helped me out a lot with things, too, and it's just nice to know there's somebody there you can lean on, you know, in tough times like that."

But Nancy says Laura is pretty remarkable, too.

"She has stood by her son, they've been through so many obstacles and continue to go through them. She's an amazing person, too."

Laura believes it's important to recognize people like Nancy, who do good deeds for others.

"It lets them know they are doing something worthwhile with their time."

Nancy says she's just doing what she feels called to do.

"Our motto is committed to simple acts of God love, and we just want to love on people and we just want to let them know, 'you're having a hard time but he has not forgotten you and we're here to help you through."
