Man Arrested In North Augusta For Suspicious Behavior In Shopping Center

By Randy Key

A Langley man has been arrested in North Augusta and charged with Soliciting for Contribution after investigators say he was approaching women in a shopping center and asking for money.

Joey William Leaphart, 42, of Langley, South Carolina was arrested and charged with Soliciting for Contribution by the North Augusta Department of Public Safety on Friday afternoon, February 17th.

Leaphart is accused of approaching women in North Augusta Plaza asking for money.

Earlier in the week, Leaphart was placed on Trespass Notice at the Aiken Wal-Mmart after being accused of approaching women to smell and kiss their feet.

Leaphart is a registered sex offender with a conviction for committing/attempting lewd act on a child under 16 from a 2000 incident.

Whereas, Leaphart has not yet been connected to any criminal misconduct stemming from North Augusta's solicitation incident, NADPS officers believe his behavior to be odd and suspicious.

NADPS wants to encourage citizens, especially women to use caution when travelling alone. If anyone has personal interaction with or similar to Leaphart's story should contact local law enforcement immediately.
