UPDATED ON 6: Search Is On For Alleged Paine College Rapist

We have the latest information on a rape investigation at Paine College.
Authorities in Richmond County searching for an alleged rapist.

Deputies say the incident happened about 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning at one of the dorms on the campus of Paine College, which is located off 15th street, in downtown Augusta.

Officers say they got a call about a sexual assault early Thursday morning. When they got on the scene, they say a female living in Graham Hall Dormitory was raped on the first floor bathroom of the all-female dorm. The victim was taken to the hospital.

Paine College officials say visiting hours at the dorm end at 10:00 p.m. and the building is locked every night at midnight. They say this is an isolated incident that did not endanger other students.

"We do have measures in place for our students to immediately contact campus safety. We have a 24-hour patrol, where our officers actually patrol the perimeter. We also have video surveillance on campus that runs 24 hours a day," says Brand Brown, Paine College'sVice President of Institutional Advancement.

The suspect is described as being about 5'10", and weighing about 155 pounds. He's described as having a dark complexion with bad acne. There's no indication at this time that the assailant is another student.

Paine College officials have issued a statement on a rape that reportedly occurred early Thursday morning in a campus dormitory.

"It is regrettable that an alleged rape incident took place on the campus of Paine College on March 7, 2013. Upon notification of the incident, Paine College officials in conjunction with local law enforcement agents immediately took action to investigate the occurrence.

The College has security measures in place to protect students and the College is continuing to work with law enforcement to bring the alleged rapist to justice.

Richmond County Sheriff's Office is taking the lead in the investigation and more information will be forthcoming as it becomes available."

Richmond County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking for a suspect in a rape that happened on Paine College's campus.

Investigators tell us, Thursday morning around 1:30 a.m., deputies responded to Paine College in reference to a Sexual Assault. Upon arrival, deputies they learned that a female student living in Graham Hall Dormitory was raped in the first floor bathroom of the dorm, by an unknown black male.

The victim was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center treatment.

The suspect is described as a black male with a dark complexion, bad acne, 5-8"-5'9" tall, weighing 150-160 pounds, 18-20 years old. He was described as wearing a purple hooded sweatshirt and dark colored pants.

The investigation is still in its early stages and more information will be released when available. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact the Criminal Investigative Division at 706-821-1020 and ask for a Violent Crimes Supervisor.
