John Naas has been teaching Computer Science at Fox Creek High School for 5 years.
"We cover the basics of the office suite. We cover power point, word, exc el, access. Everything the students are going to need both now and in the future," he says.
That's five years of keeping up with an ever-changing field.
"We're constantly expanding. Adding to the new technology as the school grows."
Mr. Naas teaches a subject that just about every child in every school finds fascinating. It's all about channeling that enthusiasm.
"The students love computers. They love technology, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, all those types of things. And we just have to find a way to make that technology an educational process for them."
When he's not near a computer, he's close to the kids outside of school. You'll find Mr. Naas at sporting events, overseeing FBLA, or working on the Fox Creek newsletter.
"I feel it's important to be involved in the community. See the students outside of school and make sure the parents see me supporting them and their activities. I'm interested in what they do and want to see them succeed," he says.
John Naas. A great teacher. A great person. And as his nominator said: somebody who just has a giving spirit.
He tells us, "I attended several schools growing up and I had many great teachers. And they really went above and beyond. And I kind of said 'wouldn't that be neat one day to be kind of like they were?' I had a great computer teacher, great history teacher growing up, and I am proud of that to this day."
