Augusta, GA - Augusta State basketball player Harold Doby is being held in Richmond County Jail Wednesday night, officials at the jail confirmed to WJBF Sports. He was arrested by Georgia Regents University police Wednesday and charged with possession of a weapon on school premises. No bond has been set.
Georgia Regents university released a statement late Wednesday night confirming Harold Doby's arrest. He has been suspended from the ASU basketball team indefinitely. Here is that complete release:
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The arrest of Harold Doby is a pending criminal matter. He has been suspended from the team indefinitely, pending investigation. The institution will investigate this matter for violations to the university’s student code of conduct and will continue to partner with local law enforcement agencies to resolve this matter.
The safety and security of our students is our top priority and we will continue to take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of our campus community. We will not comment further at this time.
Doby, a former Laney basketball player, is a star forward on the Augusta State men's basketball team. Doby is the second leading scorer and leading rebounder on the Jaguars. The Jaguars host Flagler Thursday night at 7:30.
