Brett Buffington, reporting: "Well, it was just a few weeks ago that I stood right here and told you that attorneys for Ricky Wells had requested to move his trial outside of McDuffie County. Today, we’re learning that attorneys for the co-defendant in this case, Tina Wells, have filed an almost mirror image of Ricky Wells request, also asking to move her trial at least 75 miles outside of McDuffie County. Both requests say that pre-trial publicity is a fact in this case, saying that newspapers in McDuffie County, and television stations in Augusta covered this story to the point that if they tried to select a jury here in McDuffie County, the jury would just have to much information about the case. Now some background in this case."
We first told you about Ricky and Tina Wells back in September of 2011, when they both were charged with murder. Both are accused of killing Jennifer Kitchens-Wells. Her body was then dragged some seven miles down a rural McDuffie County road.
Now, in order for either of these trials to be moved, both of these motions will have to be heard by a judge, who will have to find enough evidence to believe...if a jury was selected here in McDuffie County, the outcome of the trial would be different they know so much about the case.
Of course, it is very obvious that if these cases are moved, it will be a very expensive bill for the taxpayers in McDuffie County.
We will continue to follow this developing story and provide the latest information as it becomes available.
