It is a show that has taken off, featuring a family that makes a living making duck calls. Jase Robertson and his wife Missy say they still can't believe how many people tune in to watch their show, or how many people came out to shake their hands and snap a quick picture, when the two came to Aiken.
Jase says, "When I heard that South Carolina was playing football tonight I looked at Missy and said, there's nobody going to be here. They're all going to be watching football."
The Robertson's, who are now nationally known, say even with the fame they remain humble, and what you see on TV is the real deal.
Jase says, "The way we look at it is, a lot of people need a good laugh, and they need a good escape. So if we provide that, it makes me feel good that they're finding humor in what we do, and at the end we all come together, no matter what happens, I mean we're flawed people. We come together and we love each other, we pray to God, we have a meal together, and if wasn't for that I wouldn't even do the show."
One thing Missy says she's proud of, about the show, is the fact that it's so popular, despite the fact every episode is family friendly, profanity free, and her family is very religious.
Missy says, "We didn't know if it was going to work on a national scene because we are clean living people, and we don't use foul language, and we don't talk dirty for the camera and try to show off. So we didn't know if it would work, but America was longing for that, I think."
Faith is a topic of most of Jase Robertson's guest appearances, appearances like the 1st Annual Men's Health Dinner that brought the Robertson's to Aiken. The two say since Duck Dynasty started, their lives have been hectic.
Jase says, "I think when the show began they thought, well you know we've got some crazy bearded guys, who made millions of dollars making duck calls, and they all have beautiful wives. Now this is a show. But when they got down there, they realized that we're not going to change how we operate, and who we are. Now, we don't mind making fun of each other and having a good time, but in the end it's God, family, and ducks in that order.
