Aiken, SC -- According to Aiken County Coroner, Tim Carlton, Ann Fox Smith, 47-years-old, a Kennedy Middle School teacher, was pronounced dead at her residence Friday at approximately 5:05 p.m., by Deputy Coroner Larry Bowling, of the Aiken County Coroner's Office.
Smith was discovered unresponsive by coworkers, who became concerned when she did not show up for school Friday morning. The coworkers went to her residence, on the 900 block of Whitney Drive, in Aiken, at approximately 1:00 p.m. That is when the discovery was made.
At this time, it is not clear how Smith died, although evidence at the scene make it quite suspicious. It is believed that Smith died early Friday morning.
Autopsy is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning in Newberry, SC.
Smith's death is being investigated by Aiken Department of Public Safety, Aiken County Forensic Unit, and the Aiken County Coroner's Office. Results of the autopsy should be available, in the early afternoon, on Saturday.
