ATLANTA (AP) - Jarrod Saltalamacchia drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning, Henderson Alvarez won for the first time in three starts and the Miami Marlins beat the Atlanta Braves 3-2 Thursday night. In taking three of four games, the Marlins won just their second series in the last 10 against the Braves at Turner Field.

ATLANTA (AP) - Top-seeded John Isner avoided an upset in his Atlanta Open title defense Thursday night, rallying for a 4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 victory over wild-card entry Robby Ginepri in the second round. Trailing 5-4 in the third set, the 12th-ranked Isner fought off two match points and evened it at 5-5 with consecutive aces.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) - On the eve of training camp, the Atlanta Falcons have agreed to terms on a new contract with receiver Roddy White. The Falcons announced the four-year extension Thursday. White holds the team records for career receptions and yards receiving.

REYNOLDS, Ga. (AP) - Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall has paid the fines for possession of a small amount of marijuana and a window tint violation. Reynolds, Georgia, police chief Lonnie Holder said Thursday that Marshall's mother paid the $1,100 in fines. That means Marshall won't have to appear at a September court hearing.
