Victim and suspect named in shooting at Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home

WJBF Staff - AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) - NewsChannel 6 confirmed the victim in the shooting at Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, 34-year-old Jazna O. Timmons, was shot at least one time in the parking lot and she died on the scene.

The suspect has been identified as Jazna's husband, 29-year-old Richard Lyle Timmons Jr.

He's currently wanted for Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.

Sgt. William McCarty, with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, said "Deputies and officers who arrived on the scene determined the suspect, in fact, had left the area."

Law enforcement officials combed through the parking lot of the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home after reports of the shooting around 11:30 a.m. While investigating the incident, investigators began the search for the suspect.

Sgt. McCarty added, "At this time we are looking for a black male in a white SUV who has fled the scene."

He confirmed that SUV in question is a white Chevy Traverse. The surrounding area remained on lock down for a very short period of time.

"Anytime you have a shooting people need to be concerned and be on the look out. This appears this was a one on one situation, n incident. Any one with information should please call the RCSO," he said.

Dr. Phillip Coule, Interim Chief Medical Officer for AU Health reassured the group that those nearby were safe.

"This occurred outside the facility, so all of the residents of the Georgia War Veterans Home facility are safe and accounted for as our employees."

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) - Richmond County dispatchers confirm a shooting at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home on 15th Street, also known as the Blue Goose.

The Richmond County Coroner confirms that one person is dead.

Investigators have identified the victim as 34-year-old Jazna O. Timmons, an employee of AU.

Investigators say it appears to have been a domestic violence attack between two people and that it is no longer an active shooter situation.

Authorities say the suspect has not been apprehended.

They are currently searching for a white Chevy Traverse.

  • Butler
