What happens when dangerous weather hits while you are sleeping or when children are home alone? You might rely on sirens or a weather radio, but there is a better way with WJBF Storm Call 6.
If you are in the path of a dangerous storm, you will get a phone call from Chief Meteorologist George Myers with warnings and specific information on what you need to do to stay safe.
WJBF News Channel 6 and Bobby Jones Ford Lincoln Mercury have made an important commitment to public safety in the C.S.R.A. by hosting this important program, which significantly improves the specificity of National Weather Service warnings, and delivers them to a device as familiar as your telephone.
WJBF Storm Call 6 is available in following counties:
- Georgia
- Burke, Columbia, Emanuel, Glascock, Jefferson, Jenkins, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Screven, Warren, Wilkes
- South Carolina
- Aiken, Allendale, Barnwell, Bamberg, Edgefield, McCormick, Saluda
If you do not see your county above, please e-mail or call the Storm Call service Center at 1-866-416-9150 to have your county added.
Your local National Weather Service Office no longer has to put your entire county under a severe weather warning. They now draw a shape around the ACTUAL dangerous portion of a storm, which is much more precise than county-wide warnings. WJBF Storm 6 calls are delivered for: Tornado, Severe Thunderstorm, and Department of Homeland Security National Emergency situations.
WJBF Storm Call 6 assigns a precise latitude and longitude value to your location along with the phone number you provide. When your home or business falls inside a warning box, you will receive a message from Chief Meteorologist George Myers. If you are not inside this box, you will not receive a call!
If there is no answer on the phone you've registered, WJBF Storm Call 6 will re-dial the number and attempt to deliver the message 3 more times while your location is in the warning area.
